Re: [bomp] WTL Some JUST DON"T like it

I made my family listen to the real Live at Folsom album the week before the movie came out. Just wanted the wife and kid to remember what Cash really sounded like.

After Tom Hanks (ugh!) did movies about World War 2 and the Apollo space program, he seemed to gain some momentary "credibility" in the media as an expert on the war, and someone who'd actually been shot into space.

With Phoenix doing his own vocals, I did not want my kid to grow up confused!

Most of us seem to agree that Phoenix doesn't sound much like Cash when he sings...but did anyone else think he DID sound like some other familiar voice? I thought he sounded like a really tame version of Mike Ness. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if his first exposure to a Cash tune was one of the covers Social Distortion did.

I loved walk the line.agreed it was not the true story,I just finished
The Carter Family book (Will You Miss Me?) and Cash was hanging out
bugging the Carters with his drinking and drugging for about SEVEN years
before he got straight, not overnight the way the movie makes it
look. That said WTL is like the Buddy Holly Story was to my generation. Not the
real story-ITS HOLLYWOOD AFTER ALL.But it turns a lot of people on to
the Cash music from the 50's though(Rhinos The Sun Years CD is the REAL
soundtrack of WTL).And whats wrong with that? History all ways takes a
beating in the movies. One more flub in WTL- Cash tells June that he and
his brother "likes it when she sings "No Swalling Place" Problem is his
brother had been dead almost 30 years when that song was written I
think. Also the sound in the theater was so much better that the DVD just
can't compare( Like the POUNDING of the inmates feet)
