Wow, another Northeast R&R fixture has left us. Got
this from Chris Horne and Richard Julio this morning:
<<I am sorry to say that on Friday afternoon, February
10th, Geno passed
away.
He was 68 years old. In accordance with his wishes, he
is now enroute
to New
York to be with his family where there will be a
small private
service. JR
is doing fine, and the club will continue to operate
as usual. He will
announce a memorial get-together at the club some time
in the future.>>
A week earlier, he was happily tending bar as Big Meat
Hammer, The Jabbers and 3 other bands celebrated
Jordan's birthday at the club. So, if nothing else,
I'm glad he didn't suffer a long drawn-out illness.
He was slinging drinks and hosting shows up to the
end. Geno brought some irreplaceably good things to
Portland by being willing to provide a home for a
local music scene when nobody else was. He was a
warm, caring friend to all of us. I'll really miss
him.
