Imagine no "Imagine"...
Over the last week, the broadcast media gave alot of coverage to the 25th anniversary of John Lennons' death(apparently the guy was such a genius, that getting plugged was an acomplishment).
What song of Lennon's did they play to mark the occasion? "Cry for a Shadow"? "Run for your Life"? of course not...it was "Imagine", the limpest, foulest, most mind-numbingly ersatz piece of dreck to ever cheapen the airwaves; the fact that its triteness is still taken seriously by people other then 5 year olds and drug addicts is a sign of a culture in its last stages.
If "Imagine" were just a piece of garbage, though, I could let it slide. What makes it especially revolting is its current standing as the "Duetchland Uber Alles" of the post-60s Anti-American Left; not surprising, as the lyrics are basically Herbert Marcuse strained through a Hallmark card.
There is room for hope, though. One day, the Boomers will be dead, and "Imagine" will be buried with them. And what's left of Western civilization can celebrate by tossing that stupid white piano into a bonfire.
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.
