Don't really know about Floral Park or Suffern but all
of those mentioned in Manhattan by Baker are in areas
that are perfectly OK at worst and some of those are
in really nice parts of town.
Wouldn't recommend the place in Jamaica though.
When I stayed in NYC and wasn't staying with friends I
stayed most often at the St. Mark's but I would NOT
recommend that for a family trip at all. I didn't have
a problem there (being that I have no problem
with gays and transgenders whatsoever, I'm from LA so
I'm used to
that) but I don't think it's really a "family" place.
The one hotel I stayed at in NYC which I'd consider
family friendly would be the Larchmont on 11th street
near 5th Ave.
