[bomp] S.F. book event Monday w/ Van Dyke Parks, Frank Holmes, Domenic Priore
Friends,
This Monday night, October 10, I'll be hosting a symposium and signing with
musician/lyricist Van Dyke Parks and original 1966 Smile sleeve artist Frank
Holmes at Booksmith -- 1644 Haight Street, San Francisco (415) 863-8688 --
between 7 and 9 p.m.
I hope you can make it out; we'll be discussing my new book SMILE: THE STORY
OF BRIAN WILSON'S LOST MASTERPIECE. Van Dyke has been especially cool in
accompanying me to the book events in L.A., conversation with him is a real treat.
Frank lives in San Francisco and met Van Dyke back in around 1962 at the
Insomniac Cafe in Hermosa Beach, during an early Folk gig. Van Dyke also played
that mystifying keyboard on the Byrds' 5D (Fifth Dimension), wrote and
recorded singles like "Come to the Sunshine" (later recorded by Harpers Bizarre) and
after Smile, released his far-out debut LP for Warner Bros. SONG CYCLE... he's
been involved in cool projects ever since (Ry Cooder, Randy Newman, the
Gentle Soul, the Mojo Men's "Sit Down I Think I Love You" and much more).
Please come by Booksmith on Monday night, it'll be groovy and best of all
FREE. For more info, go to:
