Re: [bomp] John Cale

He brought it up himself and admitted to admiring Paul Revere. I keep thinking of that post (Dom's?) where it was revealed Melcher had an organ and 2 basses following the bassline on Byrds/Revere stuff and that's why it sounds so good. As Cale plays both I wondered if it was him and if it tickled his classical/pop dichotomy.
Hey Randy Fuller got that sound all by himself!

he left VU in late 67 --did some work for elektra (69) and on fontana in 68
for morning glory; he might have runned into simon who was working on
writing solo demos around that time [maybe he got simon hooked on
painkillers for the first time, the schmaltzy, tyrannical midget], but he
was more oft in london --studying studio skills from the great joe boyd, i
think--rather than LA for PR--or memphis for that dumb memphis LP--and he
CERTAINLY did not have anything to do with terry melcher, sonically or by
way through imitation.
i have to think--even considering the stooges--he was never THAT much of
a"in-house" producer al la V dyke parks or someone like that. i believed he
trod his own glorious path.

then again why would he SAY it??!!
