[bomp] '20s during the '60s
Hard as it might be to believe, when kids first heard the guy at the end of
"Winchester" sing "A-vo-de-o-doh," it wasn't anything new to them. They knew
what it was and where it was from, even if only vaguely.
That said, yes, these were still ubiquitous references back in the day... at
the Tiki Room, during "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing," there's that
Bing Crosby reference too. Good call on that HOLLYWOOD PALACE thing with
Vallee... that was part of being ubiquitous.
Had it not been for HOLLYWOD PALACE, maybe Sid Ceasar would have been
forgotten, too.
