I used an early 80s Panasonic tape deck for the same purpose. I plugged
my guitar into the mic input and ran a cord out from the headphone jack
into speaker from a mid-60s suitcase stereo where I had soldered a jack
to the speaker wire hanging out of the back. I then duct taped the tape
deck to the speaker and spray-painted the whole thing with a can of
safety orange spray paint I found by the side of the road where they
were paving. The whole rig cost me about 5 bucks in parts from Radio
Shack (the speaker I got out of the attic and my parents had bought me
the tape deck). It was the ugliest piece of shit you've ever seen but it
sounded amazing!
