I'm currently grappling with wether or not I like the Greil Marcus books, 
though I do find LIPSTICK TRACES enlightening.  I've been trying to get into his 
book on Dylan's Basement Tapes (forgot the title, something about 
REPUBLIC???), but the yawns start to come... even though I love the Basement Tapes.>>

Can't say I ever checked out his "theory" stuff, but RANTERS was pretty good, and he used to do some good stuff for the Another Room mag ages ago (be nice if someone could publish a book collecting all of said material, though at this point I'd expect it to come out sometime after the "complete Flipside" CD-ROM...)
