[bomp] Flushing Meadows w/ a Shemp complex

Oh, the still-active rink is a whole different building from the NYS
Pavillion--my brother was a speed-skating champ there in his pre-misspent
youth. It shares its space with the Queens Museum (including the "Panorama"
of the 5 boroughs), and the building itself was the original temporary home
of the U.N.!

Yes... The confusion comes from that being the NYS Pavillion in 1939... the
three-tiered thing was the 1964 NYS pavillion.

All said and done, that Park is pretty damn Bomp, if you think about it.
It's confused, like Shemp, about its place in the world. It's lost to another
time. It's kind of obscure, too, because everybody talks about Central Park.
It didn't make it after it's first 1964/1965 "hits" into the post-Summer of
Love... Epcot took the steam and never looked back... kind of like, how we prefer
the Beau Brummels to the Grateful Dead. Plus, the Ramones cut some video
thing out there that I have on tape from the mid-'80s, and I'm sure other things
that I don't know much about, like that Aquacade show w/ Lou Christie & the
Ramones.

I ran into Lou Christie backstage at Jackie DeShannon's show at the Bottom
Line a couple of years ago. He's like, with this thick NYC accent, "HEY,
JACKIE... REMEMBUH WHEN WE DID THAT ALAN FREED SHOW AT DA BROOKLYN PARAMOUNT
TOGETHER IN 1960?!?!? and she's like, in her husky, smoky L.A. voice... "I remember
it well..." This is my most beautiful backstage moment in life.
