Domenic wonders aloud whether NUGGETS wasn't supposed to be Lenny Kaye's  
version of WCFL 21 HIT ICEBREAKERS or THE WVON CHRISTMAS ALBUM or any of those  
other compilations sponsored by radio stations. Not to me - NUGGETS is way more 
 cohesive.
 
Lenny once said in an interview that this album was supposed to be his  
version of MURRAY THE K'S GOLDEN GASSERS FOR SUBMARINE RACE WATCHERS. (Or  whatever 
the hell that Chess album was called - I think it was the one where  Murray 
is standing inside an open manhole in the street...) That album wasn't a  
"radio station" elpee - more like a DJ album - but it was still a lot more  focused 
than those station comps where Lee Dorsey and Jay & the Americans  mix it up 
with Michael & the Messengers and the Flock.
