RE: [bomp] Deke Rules The Roost At Rockaround
<< Barrence Whitfield was next and didn't disappoint! >>
If there could possibly be a "downside" to being there with the Monks, it's
that I didn't get to see THAT. We had already been herded into the "holding
pen" backstage. So I missed some great music, just like at Randall's Island.
Hope it doesn't sound like I'm complaining. ;)
None of the Monks knew who Barrence was, by the way, but when his set came
blasting through the wall where we were standing, they all stood at attention.
They were all sorry they didn't get to see it. Sounded amazing from back
there. And they all told him so when he came back afterwards. I don't think
he
knew who THEY were either. ;)
<< Roy Loney has always been one of my heroes and it was absolutely fabulous
to get to see and meet this guy. Such a quiet, unassuming guy offstage and a
rock n roll monster onstage. >>
And how cool is it when you see a guy like that, who should (by all rights)
be holding court, regally, in the merch room -- and instead he's standing
attentively in the audience (by himself) watching several of the bands?
<< Sky Saxon's "help me I'm being chased" dash onto the stage was quite
amusing, especially Billy's taking it in stride and introducing him like he
was
supposed to be there. >>
As God is my witness -- from my vantage point (pressed up against the front
of the stage, where else?) that whole thing looked perfectly legit, like it
was
supposed to happen. I didn't find out about the Sky/Fowley Thrilla in Manila
until literally after I got home and started reading these posts. How do I
keep doing this? Right in the middle of the action and missing everything???
<< I was so pissed at the Chesterfield Kings for their rock star prima donna
b.s. they pulled on us before the show that I couldn't even go in and watch
them. I won't go into what they did but it almost left a Chesterfield
King-size
hole in the lineup. I don't know who they or their manager think they are but
they had some outrageous demands. >>
And once again I missed that -- but this time I am SOOOO glad I did. I was
standing up against the stage (again) blissfully, watching the best C. Kings
set I've ever seen, hands down. If I'd known about any of that, it probably
would've ruined it for me.
<< Kudos to all who got this thing flyin' especially Barney Koumis and Tom
Ingram. >>
And Randy the front-of-house guy, and his monitor-mix partner ("Timbo," I
think it was.) I have never seen such an affable bunch of people running any
show, anywhere, anytime, ever.
<< Hope to see more of you next year (and yes, one's being set up
already). >>
I think you need to book Richard And The Young Lions. ;)
