yeah, still at borders...it's actually pretty interesting some times; i
don't do a lot of time up at the registers, i am mainly in the back office
all day, but the times i am actually helping out up front, i take serious
pleasure in checkin out what people are buying. the other day i had one guy
scoring a bio of wittgenstein, and the next guy getting "fun house" and some
richard ashcroft record, then some froo-froo jeezo-mama buying lindor balls
and some jesus book. then of course, there are the really fun customes, the
permed-mullett guys buying journey and y&t 'nice price' CDs. i was totally
cracking up the other day, watching "ghost world," cuz that mulletted
acid-wash-wearing numchuck guy at the 7-11 looks EXACTLY like some of our
customers. YAAAAAAH!!
i do all of the special-ordering for our store - thought maybe a short
list, from memory, of recent special orders might be of some interest -
- emitt rhodes 1st LP (on one way, OOP couldn't get it, recommend the
'daisy fresh' comp instead)
- complete works of stryper (they never came to pick them up, go figure)
- amazing blondel
- various tim buckley titles
- "reefer songs" - killer comp of jazz-era pot-themed tracks
- that horrible WWF comp
- lots of cutesy-pie good-citizen christian justin timberlake wanna-be's
- key largo: the best of bertie higgins (i actually had to talk to the
weirdo that ordered this on the phone...he was going off for like 15 or 20
minutes about how obscure and unappreciated bertie higgins was...i should
have recommended a counselor)
- genesis "archives" box set. 1967-75 stuff.
- the randy newman box
- the first faster pussycat album
- various judy garland and liza minelli titles (the guy that bought these
was a real a-hole, too)
one last piece of borders trivia; we have interesting thieves. somebody
has been ripping the shit off of our box set section. someone fucking ripped
off "zombie heaven." i heard about this from a manager and i was like "FUCK
YEAH!....i mean, shit, that sucks......" & no, it wasn't me, either ;) - i
got that box when it came out. but we have been having all kinds of neat shit
getting ripped off lately, "zombie heaven," the nuggets 2 set, and "wouldn't
you miss me: the best of syd barrett." i mean, shit. cool shoplifters.
imagine. i'd sooner call the fucking cops on people paying MONEY for the god
damn dixie chicks, but that's me, i guess....
thank you, drive through -
rob
