more about "The Cool Ones" & Debbie Watson
A few years before "The Cool Ones" Debbie Watson had a "Gidget"-type TV show
called "Karen", which first ran as a 30 minute segment in the 90 minute show
"90 Bristol Court" (the other two 30 minute segments had different characters
but took place at the same appartment building). "90 Bristol Court" ran on
NBC from October 5, 1964 to January 4, 1965. "Karen" was spun off as a
full-fledged series, also on NBC, airing January 11, 1965 to September 6,
1965. The "Karen" theme song was by the Beach Boys (and appears on their box
set) and was also covered by the Surfaris (it's on one of their recent best
of cd's).
Some of the music in "The Cool Ones" was written by Lee Hazelwood, and he
also had one of the songs from the film, "This Town", sung by Nancy Sinatra
on her album/TV special "Movin' With Nancy" (recently shown on AMC).
"The Cool Ones" got rave reviews in the books "The Catalog Of Cool" (where I
first heard about the film and taped it from a local station) and "Hollywood
Rock" and a lukewarm review in the "Psychotronic Film Guide".
