That Phil Spector album was "End Of The Century" (1980) and Dee Dee was
still in the band and "Chinese Rocks" was on it.

Well, excuse me, mr. smarty pants, but Dee Dee definitely said he didn't play on the Ramones' version of "Chinese Rocks." Unless he just forgot about it, which is definitely possible!

I never said he played on it. I just said he was still in the band when they
cut it. It was the dates that were the issue anyhow. It's not really a
matter of being a smarty pants either. I interviewed The Ramones 4 times on
different tours and back when Dee Dee left the band I wrote a rather
extensive piece on the Ramones for a local rag so I'm just a little picky on
the facts. They are also my favorite band bar none as they were my entre
into the world of punk back in '76 when I was a lad of 8 so I'm a little
touchy sometimes... No offense was meant.

Just got the Filth and the Fury DVD (The Sex Pistols documentary. If you haven't seen it in the theaters, I highly recommend it. Done by Julian Temple, it is the bands "rebuttal" to Malcolm McLeran's version of Pistols orgina and history. It's really well done and puts the band in the context of the social and economic times. Plus it's get great footage. two thumbs and two toes up!

Subject: [bomp] The Bottom Line, NYC, is in trouble

My own gut reaction is more of anger than sadness. They dug their own hole
here, with their narrow-niche booking policies over the last decade or so.
They cater now almost exclusively to the "WFUV Audience" -- people who wouldn't
spend actual money to actually go out and see an actual show with actual
performers unless the show was being held in their own actual driveway in their own
actual SUV. BUT -- two things: 1) I hate to see ANY landmark venue go under,
and this one is a landmark among landmarks, and 2) I have very good memories
of the shows I saw there when they DID book good acts. The BL was the first
place Tom Petty ever played in NYC (back when he was vital, if you can imagine
such a time.) I was there. It was also the first place the Tubes played in
NYC. I was there too. The place has great lighting, fabulous sound -- and I
don't wanna see it turned into another vanilla NYU building. NYU has swallowed
enough of the Village already.

Maybe if we help these guys out they'll start booking somebody other than
just Lucy Kaplansky all the fucking time............

HELP SAVE THE BOTTOM LINE:
A note to friends of the Bottom Line from
Allan Pepper and Stanley Snadowsky:

The doors may soon close on a thirty year legacy.

The Bottom Line has been presenting live music since
February 12, 1974, and is owned and operated by Allan
Pepper and Stanley Snadowsky, who have been friends
since childhood. The Bottom Line is unique because it
is a "mom & pop store" amidst a crowded field of
conglomerates and corporations. Our main commodity in
the club has always been and will always be the music.

The Bottom Line has always been, and still is, run by
Allan & Stanley, who take a great pride in what they
do. They always have and still love the music.

The problem is as follows:

Even before the terrorist attacks on the World Trader
Center, the nation was already feeling the downturn in
the economy. Our business, along with so many other
small businesses, has not been able to recover since
the tragedy of September 11th. Attendance to shows has
declined. In addition, our customers are
feeling economic stress, our bills have been
multiplying, and we have found ourselves substantially
behind in our rent. Our landlord, New York University,
has started eviction proceedings.

During our negotiations with New York University to
resolve this situation, the Bottom Line has presented
several different proposals to pay our past due rent,
while at the same time keeping current with a new,
higher rent proposed by NYU. Unfortunately, NYU has
not been open to negotiating a long-term solution to
our mutual problem. We want to pay off our debt to
NYU, but to do so we need to remain in business. To
stay in business, we need a promise from NYU that, if
we pay off the rental arrears, they won't evict the
Bottom Line.

Unless we can sway NYU to give us this basic
assurance, we won't be able to take the steps
necessary to save the Bottom Line. If you'd like to
help, here's what you can do.

Let NYU know how important the Bottom Line is to the
metropolitan area and what a loss it would be if the
city was downsized by another landmark - particularly
if you are an alumnus/a of NYU. Send a note to John
Beckman assistant vice president of the Office of

seeing a show today because we may not have a
tomorrow.

I am a late owl. It is not uncommon for me to be up at 3 or 4AM. Anyway,
there's an informercial that I am getting tired of. It is called "Girls Gone
Wild." It is just plain sad that they would try to sell this video, and I can
just picture some pathetic person wanting to buy this. It shows that they have
no life. If they are going to buy that video, why not buy porn? And if one
must get porn, get 60s or 70s porn which had the most erotic and artistic thing
going for it. If they go for porn, they'll get more out of it than watching
drunk mindless college girls at a beach or at Marti Gras. I am sorry to say
this, but "Girls Gone Wild" is lame.

====================
Mike Smith, lead singer of the legendary 60's British rock group The Dave Clark Five, was admitted to a hospital in Cadiz, Spain on Saturday after suffering a spinal injury as a result of a fall at his home. His condition is deemed critical.

Smith, who resides in the south of Spain, has been transferred to a private hospital nearby that specializes in sports injuries, where he is under the care of his long-time London physician, Dr. Keith McKee, and a spinal specialist. Both doctors are cautiously optimistic.

It continues to be a bittersweet year for Smith, the man who Tom Petty calls "one of the best singers of the 60's." After receiving rave reviews from fans and press alike during his first US Tour in over three decades earlier this year, on June 1st, Mike's only son, Jamie, a 23 year old SCUBA instructor, died off the coast of Egypt while trying to rescue a lost group of divers. In August, 2003, Smith again took to the US stages appearing at
festivals and casinos in Las Vegas and the Mid-West.

"We're in the process of putting together a 2004 tour to mark the 40th Anniversary of the British Invasion," says Margo Lewis, Smith's agent at TCI in New York "and we have every confidence that Mike Smith will be a part of it."

Smith's recent US appearances included performances on Late Night With David Letterman and at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Well, if by erotic, Melvin means pasty, sickly looking women, and by
artistic, he means guys with bad mustaches, I have to agree!

featured often in 7ts PLAYGURL.

But didn't we have the whole moustache conversation just a few months ago?
Somebody check the thread. Some were saying the Little Richard pencil line
was rock & roll, I felt the only acceptable facial hair was sideburns.

"Meanwhile, it appears that New Jersey rock and roll legend Bruce
Springsteen
has join the growing chorus of Americans calling for impeachment.

During Springsteen's concert in DC Saturday night, he reportedly told
concert goers "It's time to impeach the president and get a man in there to
get us out of this mess," Springsteen reportedly followed his impeachment
exhortation with complaints about past and present elected leaders who have
misled the country. During a Boston performance this past Wednesday,
Springsteen prefaced his rendition of "Born in the U.S.A." with a statement
he termed "a public service announcement" about holding our political
leaders accountable."

I can't confirm it but I did hear the same rumor from a completely different
source early this morining. My source also said that Springsteen suggested
that Clarence Clemons take Bush's place.

Random thoughts on golden-oldie porn, bushes, etc.

When I was 17 I had the good fortune to see Deep Throat at my college. That
was in fall 1978 or spring 79. It was made in 1972. Memory can fade after 25
years, but I seem to recall that pubic depilatory was one of the most
striking features of the heroine's overall presentation.

Perhaps one erotic element is that the women actually came in all shapes and
sizes. For every emaciated coke addict-type, there was a Lisa DeLeeuw. And
their anatomical parts came in all shapes and sizes as well, and tits
generally did not just sit there, motionless, jutting straight out like
crazy-glued grapefruits. This made for much more exciting girl-on-top and
doggie style scenes then what we see with today's surgically mounted,
locked-in-place prosthetics.

Today's high-resolution video cams and demand for
no-camera-angle-that-doesn't-prove-penetration-really-up-close
cinematography results in a lot of the men being their own cameraman. I'm
not sure that any really decent fucking can happen if I'm holding a camera
in both hands pointing down at my crotch and trying to keep my eye on the
frame and hold the camera motionless while I'm banging away. I'm also not
sure that disembodied genitals are the most erotic element of porn, but hey,
chalk it up to taste.

DT was shown as a double feature at that campus screening with Behind the
Green Door, which featured some stuff relegated to the fetish market today.
Which brings me to another idea: since Supreme Court rulings back then
required that the movies not appeal exclusively to the prurient interest,
there had to be breaks between the sex to have some story line. No matter
how preposterous and tedious that story line was, it required additional
characters, which meant additional characters fucking, in different manners
and with different partners. Today's video collections tend to be either
segmented by type of sex act, age of performers, race of performers, shape
of bodies, single star (what is up with Ed Powers?), and exclusive fetishes
not interrupted by other types of fucking (obesity, dwarves, pissing,
pregnant, senior citizens, whatever).

Anyway, my wife will be home any second, so I can't really continue these
musings right now, but I think there is a lot to be said for the advantages
of the pioneering porn over what's distributed today.

My living room is unbooked. Though it would have to be an unplugged show.
Maybe acoustic guitar, casio keyboard, and tambourine.

This is why I stopped drinking at the coyote ugly. It was bad enough after
the stupid, annoying movie came out and they started filling up with crowds
of stupid, annoying people. "Good for them," I thought. "They deserve to
make some money." And I could just about tolerate when they got carried away
with the dancing on the bar schtick. "I should have seen that coming" I
said.

But then they started encouraging customers to dance on the bar and take
their tops off. Which sounds like a good idea, but they were also letting
other customers take pictures. Which I have no doubt were posted online
before I got home that night.

Plus, there's only so much bad 70s music that I can take.

I thought the "Filth and the Fury" was great. This one is in some ways a
bit better. Well worth picking up. When the band is interviewed in it,
you can actually see their faces;

P.s. at The Sex Pistols show in Chicago there was a little blonde
standing close to us that was wearing a Bomp T-Shirt.

They also had to suspend operations recently while being prosecuted for
distributing a bunch of underaged girls going wild. Don't know how that got
resolved.
