Anyone figure out the raw protocol to download programs into these things? I
need to integrate this into our main windows application HOWEVER I
absolutely refuse to ship yet another version of the "why in the 'H' 'E'
'double hockey sticks' is this required" file bwcc32.dll.

We specialize in serial communications, so forcing people to go outside of
our application simply to update some firmware on these units is
unacceptable.

I am willing, however, supply something to the tiger community if said
protocol was easily obtained. Like a VC6 project that actually compiles and
a downloading dll with no external dependancies.

Anyone care to lob the first softball for me?

Hi Tim,
if You are a specialist in Tiger programming and PC serial communication there is a more better solution for You which I am starting to use now in my projects:
With the new feature "update me", which can be found on the wilke download area, you can update a firmware out of the flash. I am doing that in a way that I am uploading the new firmware thru a serial protocol (which I wrote for myself) into the flash and then using "updateme".
Of course, You are loosing the flash contents for data but I am first saving all data to PC, then updating firmware and then upload all data back to flash memory.
And what is still interesting: you can use much higher baud rates to do that e.g. 115k ore more!

Try it!
Best regards
Martin

Hi Tim,

try this link:
http://www.wilke.de/downloads/_goodies/_Start_Restart/Update_me.zip
it is still in beta, so be careful...

One more tool may be in your interest - I provide it in a GNU GPL License.
Please download here:
http://www.grco.de/blowfish_V1.0.zip
Its the public domain blowfish encrypting algorithm ported to tiger
basic.... you can use it to encrypt your Tiger program while transferring it
to the tiger...

Best wishes....

While you are dealing with encryption issues, do you know of any Tiger code
to do RSA encryption/decryption on text files ? Specifically I only need to
generate an RSA signature at the Tiger end, to be able to prove that the
file has not been tampered with after receipt on a PC. So the PC can do the
decryption, but the Tiger has to do the signing.

Hi Adrian,

I do this with a checksum - You'll find any algorithms in the net e.g.
CRC32. After decrypting, the CRC must be correct. Of course - this is NOT a
"real" Signing, but any person who wants to destroy information will not
succeed because of the encrypted CRC. In the case of using blowfish, only 1
bit changed will change the whole message!

Also "double" encrypting is a way to do it. First use a changing key for the
encrypting and then a fixed key for an additional encrypting phase.

RSA is something completely different. You're dealing with different keys
for encrypting and decrypting. Also RSA is much more CPU consuming, which is
a real problem for the tiger :-)

RSA algorithms can be found in the internet.

Best regards
Martin

Thanks Martin,

Unfortunately the application demands a 'real' signing, so that a third
party can neither alter or create a false document. AFAIK this can only be
done with something like RSA.

Hello Adrian,

what about this:
1. calculate a checksum over your document. The checksum should be as long
as possible. For example 1024 Bits.
2. Put this checksum into a String and encrypt it with blowfish - could be
"text-hex-format".
3. Send the document and encrypted checksum of (2) to the receiver
4. The receiver can now decrypt the checksum to check with the content of
document if document is correct.

The same algorithm can be used to check a "password" if it is correct.

Best regards

Martin

Martin,

In this application the verification code must be in the public domain, so
in principle anyone can get the key.
The problem is that since Blowfish is symmetric, and the receiver has the
key, then he can make a false document and sign it.

We should take this off-list if you want to discuss it any further.

Hey,

I like to use the PCF8583 as an event counter. I like to count up to 1000000
and like to ask the tiger in different times (about 0.01 sec) how many
events occurs and than reset the counter.

I like to measure frequency up to a max of 1 kHZ.

While I need to measure three frequencies I like to use three 8583 Counters.

How do I have to make the start setup of the chip (initstring) and how would
be the best way to read the chip out.

Hope someone can help me.

Thx a lot,

Torsten

Greetings all,

It has been a long time since I have done any programming (and it never was
much). Any help you all can give me to get started again will be
appreciated. I am writing a non-commercial application which will control
circulator pumps, zone control valves and monitor 1wire temp. sensors in my
home. This system is secondary to the 'normal' thermostat. And controls
only in-floor heat. The 'primary' heat is by air.

In particular, guidance on the best way to use the keypad on the
iCom-200. I have managed to figure out many other aspects of the system
but the example program provided with the iCom (I can't find it on the web
site which seems odd!) only goes as far as printing the raw key code on
the LCD. There are several ambiguities in the listing provided that
complicate this further.

First, the example shows:
   INSTALL_DEVICE #KEYB, "LCD1.TDD",0,0,0,0,0,0,80h,8 ' keyb driver
as the command to set up the keyboard. I then came across some other
reference that indicates:
   INSTALL_DEVICE #KEYB, "LCD1.TDD",0,0,0,0,0,0, 0eeh, 0, 0eeh, 0eeh, 0,
0eeh, 0FFh, 0FFh' keyb driver only
would be the correct parameters (at the time, I copied the reference
exactly as shown). Unfortunately, I can't locate the second reference
now. Both work - the only difference being first line results in a beep
for each keypress and the second gives no beep. Initially, I need to be
able to use at least the primary legend functions (numeric entry, esc, ok,
and arrows) to allow navigation on the LCD and entry of numeric values. I
would however, like to solve this problem once (completely) and then
recycle the code in other apps.

Which of the above lines is more correct and why?

Second, I was looking at the SCAN_TO_TOGGLE, SCAN_TO_ CHAR_SETUP, AND
SCAN_T0_CHAR$ thinking this may be an alternative and I find that the
example program specified in the first two references as being in the
latter, is nowhere to be seen! Can anyone shed any light on this one!

Lastly, does anyone have any 1 wire code that they would be willing to
share as an example for the above app.? I am planning on using the ser0
with a 2480B attached for the 1 wire interface.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Peter

We are having folks with mental problems when it comes time to jumper wires
correctly. Is there a way to: 1) have xon/xoff flow control, and 2) disable
usage of CTS/RTS so they don't have to be jumpered together?

I noticed there is possibly a newer version of ser1b that uses xon/xoff on
the downloads site. Is this newer than the one in the 5.01 distribution?

Thanks,

Tim
