Hi!

I am trying to readout some values from analogue inputs. I have loaded
Analog1.tig into the Basic Tiger. Without anything being connected to
the analogue inputs, the display is looking something like this:

AD 0: val0
AD 1: val1
AD 2: val2
AD 3: val3

Now, the values which are displayed (val0 to val3) are continuous
oscillating in a random way. Is this normal or not? In case it is not,
where could be the problem?

Another question would be: if I want to connect some passive components
(thermistors or photoresistors for example) where could I connect them?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Radu Popa

Hi Radu,

1.
terminate the inputs with 1MOhm to ground to achieve zero volt without
oszillations.

2.
You have to realize a voltage divider. R to 5V and Thermistor to ground
or vice versa and measure the voltage in the middle.

Hi Radu,

first question: Yes it is normal. General Tip: Never leave unused Pins as
inputs or unconnected. Specially the analog inputs should be connected as
written from Bernd Kohlstrunk to ground with a resistor or directly to
ground.

second question: if you use a voltage divider with a resistor, you will have
to use an OpAmp to amplify the voltage swing and increase input resistance.
Addtionally it is more secure because you could destroy the Tiger with some
unwanted Peaks from Your Inputs (Long Cables, Induction, EMC, Static
discarge etc.) It is then possible to measure with high accuracy and
linearity.

Best regards and good luck

Thank you!

Best regards,
Radu Popa

Thank you very much for the help!

What I would like to achieve in the first stage is to be able to read
sensors and do simple actions. I wonder if I could implement for the
Tiger any 2 wire bus system for the sensors. Any information related to
this would be a great help!

Best regards,
Radu Popa

If you plan to use Sensors with digital output:
Take a look at the shift_in, shift_out and I2C funktions.
There is a driver for Dallas 1-Wire Chips too.
For sensors with PWM-like output it may be possible to use
the plsin1 or freq1 driver.
It will work for a bus length of a few meters and you can use
relative cheap and available sensors with digital output.
For longer busses it is better to use RS485.

For an analog "bus system" it is nearly impossible to use
only 2 wires, you would need complicated additional circuits
on both sides of the bus.
