Hi,

i look for several days a solution:

When i read with I2C_READ$ command a PCF 8574 chip, first this command =
write the buffer location and after this command read with slave address =
the PCF 8574. But unfortunaltly, this PCF 8574 need only a read command =
without buffer location. In fact, actually, this command first write the =
data that i try to read !!!

I have the same problem with PCF8591 but i found the solution in the =
forum, with use only I2C_READ command for the control and the read. But =
with PCF8574 i can't use the same method, because first this command =
write the location and after read the data, so this command erase the =
date before read.

Thanks for your help.

Hello All,

JMVL> Is the Tiger dead too ???
JMVL> Comments welcome.

I've been using the Tiger for quite a number of years now and have
been VERY impressed by its capabilities and stability. However, I fear
that unless it is developed further it will be overtaken by the other
processor modules on the market.

My requirements for any new TinyTiger would be:

1. Embedded Ethernet - with TCP/IP stacks etc...
2. MUCH faster external I/O capabilities.
3. More serial ports (or fast hardware SPI).
4. CAN would be nice.
5. Higher performance analogue inputs - 12-bit minumum.

Thoughts...

Peter Elliot

Hello Jean-Marc!

Yes I wonder if they sold more than 20 Tigers in
total! My Tiny Tiger is working fine and I
continue to find new uses for it, mostly for data
acquisition. It sure would be helpful if there
was a decent set of manuals though.

We have a number of Tigers in the field, but we are moving more into the
PIC world. I would add to Peter's list:

- Greater range of processors within the scaleable architecture- like the
different PIC families. Say an 18 pin IC, all the way up to the bigger
"modules". Allows you to better match cost to each project.
- Quantity production strategy. Bad to have to re-design when your product
is successful, because they can't supply the volume.

Gordon.

Peter
I have had the development system for a while but have never used it in a
product
yet. I have used the Microchip PIC series of most products. I feel TT is for
larger
more intense projects than I usually do.

Hello Jim,

JC> I have had the development system for a while but have never
JC> used it in a product yet. I have used the Microchip PIC series of
JC> most products. I feel TT is for larger more intense projects than
JC> I usually do.

I've used the TinyTiger in an an embedded process monitoring system
combined with a Xilinx FPGA, Graphic LCD with matrix touchscreen used
in a automotive assembly environment.

The TinyTiger will never compete for products that can be implemented
by a PIC or similar micro. But the TinyTiger is much more powerful...

I am however looking at the Motorola DSP56F807 for my next project as
although it doesn't have Ethernet it is very fast and has all the I/O
I need (analog, quadrature, etc..) I'm using it as a 'SuperPIC' with
much less memory than the TinyTiger.

I tend to check the Wilke Germany site (http://www.wilke.de/) more
than the US site as new developments show up more quickly. I note that
they seem to be concentrating on 'computer' scale products (such as
the 'iCom-200 Industrie Computer') rather than developing the modules
themselves. This I feel is a shame.

If Wilke is working on some new Tiger (module) product they need to
let the existing tiger community in on it before we all jump ship too
prematurely.

Regards,

Peter

Jim,

Thanks for the tip on Wilke's web site. It's been awhile since I
checked out their site. They have some new products that look interesting.

We use various processors in our operation. They all have their pro's
and con's. We use Rabbit Semiconductor boards for Ethernet
communications and 8052 series processors for low end and utility apps.
The PIC's are very popular, so we may take another look it them as well.
However, we use thousands of Tiger processor each year, at an ever
increasing rate.
It wouldn't bother me if Wilke made no further improvements for
some time to come. The Tiger chips have performed flawlessly. They
allowed us to move so far ahead of our competition in such a short time that
the competitors can't even see our dust. I just hope Wilke continues
the current line of Tiger chips for some time to come.

That's my two bits worth,

Regards,

John Bode

I agree the TT is very powerful and relatively easy to program.
I have looked at the Rabbit but have not tried it. I have use the 8052.
If I have a project that needs a lot data acquisition I will
use the TT of it.
Thanks John

Hi,

is there any way to get smaller wait_duration's? (delay).

Eg. in uSec?

Thanks,

Hi, all
Just to add my $0.02 in, we in Australia have used/sold probably over 1000
Tigers, and sell in 4 ways:

* Tigers as modules to customers who do their own
boards/programs/everything;.

* Tigers on JED designed boards, where customers buy just the board/Tiger
from JED and apply a standard JED board (as on our site,
http://www.jedmicro.com.au/Tigers.htm );

* Tiger on boards designed specifically for that customer, usually with
Xilinx gate arrays having special data acquisition state machines or
multi-stage quad counters in them to add great parallel processing
facilities to the Tiger;

* JED designed custom products where we do design, programming, cases and
sell into a vertical market, eg the LCD projector controller. This project
has 17,000 lines of Tiger code and is just over 1/2 full in a 512K Tiger.
This project would not have been possible in anything smaller than a Tiger
with this much memory, and so we have fitted control functions for 172
projectors into one standard program distribution. Try THAT in anything else
other than going to a PC architecture. It fits in a power outlet case. The
ease of programming is sensational, and customers of the final product can
upload new versions anywhere in the world off the www site:
http://www.jedmicro.com.au/projector_controllers.htm

I guess this last way we sell Tigers has really convinced us of the power of
the Tiger, and yes, there are markets I would not attempt to sell Tigers to,
and for that we also sell AVR (Atmel) boards, where we have a CPU which can
run 16 MIPS in a good, C programmable RISC architecture, and our newest
board has a standby current of under 2 mA, 2 MByte of static RAM, 128kbyte
of program FLASH, an on-board GPS, an onboard GSM/GPRS, and runs from
vehicle 12/24 volts, also. 16 I/O, LCD, RTC, 8x8 keyboard, I2C, RS485,
analog, and 4 serial ports, all under interrupt.

So ... we like Tigers as they are for lost of applications, but would like
faster ones with more serial ports for other projects, and have told Wilke
about this. Keep tuned to Wilke ... they might just have been listening!

Cheers
Ed

Hi all,

my fiend tested chips from link:

http://www.wiznet.co.kr/e_i2chip/index_e.htm

This is one way for creation small TCP/IP module for TigerBasic (can buy
module) web module, but we must write all tasks in Basic.

Bye

Lubos

Hello John,

JHE> is there any way to get smaller wait_duration's? (delay).
JHE> Eg. in uSec?

The only way to get smaller times would be to produce a manual loop to
waste time.. However as the system is multitasking there would be no
guarantee that the time wouldn't be extended unless to disable task
switching during the loop... and even then the serial port may cause
interrupts.

Without knowing what your trying to implement I can't give a definite
answer.

Regards,

Peter

I'm using a 14-bit counter which needs a latch to be held approximately
10us. to stop. Now I use wait_duration 1, but that's too much time since
I'm doing a time-critical realtime system.
The whole program is just one loop with lots of sub-routines for fast
execution.

I don't remember the time LL_IPORT_PULSE provides, test it.

I'm using this one for 100µs:

   Pulse$="FF FF"%

   shift_out 8,5,6,Pulse$,8 ' Zeit ProgPuls

may be its possible to get shorter pulses if you change the string
(or use ints) to "00 01"% or "00 03"%.

You can try to fiddle with:

  R = SET_SYSVARN ( SHIFT_SLOWER,0 )  ' setze Systemparameter

to adjust the pulse width.
But you need an unused pin for this (or a "don't care" at the time it is used).

In case you have some more unused pins you can try:

  FLAG=XSETUP(6,8,5,0,1,8,6)              ' Setup Ports: 6Dbus, 8Stbus 8.5ACLK 8.0DCLK 8.1INE 8.6CE

  XBUS_OUTR ("10"%+STOS$(wrChar$,0,Write$,N,1))

It is thougt for (relative) fast interaction with a data-bus, I use it with a CPLD
to interface to a 8/24bit data/adress-bus.

Hope it helps,

Joerg.
