[tap tap]...Ahem...Madmosielles and monsieurs...SONIC YOUTH! Yes boys and girls, you coulda asked for the bestest and brightest happeningist sounds around, you coulda called for the band, the funkiest and fullest, the only game in town. You didn't, but they showed up anyway. Sonic Youth touching roots from here to helsinki, presented for our enjoyment pleasure, their killer and kickin brand of loony and lightening tunes. Eric Bogosian opened the set with his performance, and a performance it was. When the guy hits a character square on, he is that character, great great acting. Truly an experience. The second half of his pieces he wasn't quite hitting the characters square on, and was stretching himself a bit, which is no surprise, cause he really sets himself a hard act to follow. Let's say stratigically flawed, but tactically impressive. I for one want to be there when he really really finds a vehicle to cut him loose and he has the oportunity to really concentrate his obvious talents, in something more then hollywood tv nadaness. Sonic Youth. What can one say? What can two say? Three even? They did it up, smoked smoked and smoked again. Putting to rest quesy feelings from another day, they came back with a vengence. On a mission, and tho still not totally comfortable with their position yet, or was Thurston always that awkward, huh huh huh, come to think of it he always was, they brought it home in a big big big way. Unconstrained, deliberate, purposefull, they laid it out to be lapped up, the juice was on, and they took their brand of noise and pushed pushed pushed it over the top. The more you see a band, the farther away they generally get from what got you there in the first place, Sonic Youth dragging this cube? NO F***ING WAY!
